Revolut experienced a major service disruption on October 20, 2026, after an outage affecting Google Cloud infrastructure interrupted several banking functions.

Customers reported difficulties making card payments, transferring funds, withdrawing cash from ATMs and accessing their accounts.

The London-based digital bank acknowledged the disruption on X, confirming that engineers were investigating problems affecting multiple services.

Revolut reassured customers that their “money and data are safe” despite the technical difficulties.

The company did not immediately disclose how many users were affected or provide an estimated time for full service restoration.

The incident highlights the dependence of digital financial platforms on external cloud infrastructure.

Card Payments, Transfers and Withdrawals Affected

According to Revolut's system status page, 28 services were listed as partially unavailable during the disruption.

Affected functions included card payments, bank card top-ups, domestic and international transfers, ATM withdrawals and account sign-ins.

Certain premium banking features were also experiencing problems.

More than 1,500 user reports appeared on Downdetector, indicating widespread difficulties accessing the platform.

However, those reports do not establish the total number of affected customers.

Revolut serves more than 80 million personal customers and over 800,000 business accounts worldwide, including approximately 13 million users in the United Kingdom.

Given the platform's international reach, disruptions to essential payment services can affect both everyday consumers and businesses relying on digital transactions.

Reports of service difficulties also increased for Lloyds Bank, although a direct connection to the Google Cloud incident was not established.

Google Cloud Reports Problems in European Region

The disruption was linked to technical failures affecting Google Cloud services in its europe-west2 region, which is located in London.

According to Google's service health dashboard, the incident began at 23:08 Pacific Daylight Time on October 19.

Several cloud products were identified as affected, including BigQuery, App Engine, Cloud SQL and Firestore.

These services support data processing, application hosting, database management and other functions used by online platforms.

Failures involving cloud infrastructure can interrupt applications that depend on those systems, even when the affected companies have not experienced a direct security breach.

Revolut confirmed that its engineering teams were working to restore the disrupted services.

However, the company had not announced a complete recovery timeline at the time of the initial reports.

Outage Comes Exactly One Year After AWS Failure

The timing is particularly notable because the Revolut disruption occurred exactly one year after a major Amazon Web Services outage affected financial and technology platforms.

On October 20, 2025, problems originating in AWS's US-EAST-1 region in Northern Virginia interrupted numerous online services.

Affected companies included Coinbase, Robinhood, Venmo, Lloyds Bank, Canva and Zoom, alongside Amazon's Alexa and Ring products.

During that incident, Coinbase customers experienced difficulties logging into accounts, placing orders and withdrawing funds through the mobile application.

The two incidents involved different cloud providers, but both demonstrated how infrastructure failures can affect multiple financial services simultaneously.

Such disruptions raise questions about operational resilience and the concentration of critical digital infrastructure among major cloud providers.

Revolut Faces Renewed Security and Reliability Concerns

The latest outage also follows a separate cybersecurity incident involving Revolut in September 2026.

During that episode, hackers reportedly demanded $3 million following a data breach.

The October service disruption, however, was attributed to Google Cloud infrastructure problems rather than a newly reported cyberattack.

There is no evidence in the available reports linking the two incidents.

For customers, the immediate concern remains restoring access to payments, transfers, withdrawals and account management.

For the broader financial technology industry, the incident reinforces the importance of backup infrastructure, operational safeguards and effective communication during service interruptions.

Although Revolut has reassured customers about the safety of their funds and information, the full impact of the outage will depend on how quickly affected services return to normal.
