Porsche is ending its Web3 initiative and the PIONEERS CIRCLE community after nearly four years, bringing the automaker's experiment with NFTs and blockchain-based customer engagement to a close.
The company announced the decision on October 1, confirming that official community activity surrounding its PORSCHE 911 NFT collection will wind down.
Porsche did not provide a specific reason for closing the initiative. The company instead reflected on the project as an experiment that grew beyond technology into a community built around digital creativity and enthusiasm for the Porsche brand.
The shutdown affects Porsche's official involvement rather than the existence of the NFTs themselves.
Today, we are announcing the conclusion of the Porsche Web3 project and PIONΞERS CIRCLE.

Porsche 911 NFTs Will Remain Onchain
Existing PORSCHE 911 NFTs will remain with their current owners and continue existing on Ethereum. Porsche is not burning the tokens, migrating them to another blockchain or requiring holders to redeem them.
What disappears is the infrastructure Porsche built around the collection.
The PIONEERS CIRCLE Discord will become a read-only archive, preserving previous discussions while preventing new posts. Porsche's dedicated Web3 account on X, @eth_porsche, will also stop publishing updates.
No official buyback, redemption or replacement program has been announced. That distinction is particularly important for holders because inactive official channels can create opportunities for phishing campaigns impersonating the project.
Any supposed NFT migration, token claim or wallet connection related to the shutdown should therefore be treated cautiously because Porsche has announced no such process.
NFT Launch Struggled in 2023
Porsche first unveiled its digital 911 collection during Art Basel Miami in December 2022, before opening the public mint in January 2023.
The original plan called for 7,500 NFTs priced at 0.911 ETH each, deliberately referencing the company's iconic 911 sports car.
Demand, however, came in below expectations. The collection's secondary-market floor price fell below the mint price while the sale was still underway, with some collectors criticizing both the high entry price and limited initial utility.
The final collection contained 2,363 NFTs, less than one-third of the originally planned supply. The reduced supply helped the collection recover in the secondary market, while Porsche shifted its attention toward developing a smaller community around existing holders.
PIONEERS CIRCLE Expanded Beyond Digital Collectibles
Porsche subsequently developed the NFTs beyond their original visual designs.
Owners could customize their digital 911s through Performance, Heritage and Lifestyle design paths, allowing each NFT's appearance to evolve according to its owner's choices.
PIONEERS CIRCLE also introduced real-world benefits.
Members participated in Porsche and motorsport-related events, including driving and racetrack experiences, while community ambassadors collected feedback and communicated suggestions to the company.
However, secondary-market interest gradually declined.
The collection generated approximately $20 million in lifetime trading volume, but activity had fallen to around $38,000 over the previous year and approximately $2,900 during the month before Porsche announced the shutdown.
That decline reflects a much weaker environment for NFTs compared with the market's 2021–2022 peak.
Porsche Follows Nike's RTFKT Exit
Porsche is not the first major global brand to scale back a high-profile Web3 initiative.
Nike announced in December 2024 that it would wind down RTFKT, the digital fashion and NFT company it acquired in 2021. RTFKT officially ceased operations in early 2025, although its blockchain-based collections continued to exist.
The decision subsequently became the subject of litigation from NFT buyers, illustrating the potential complications that arise when brands discontinue projects while blockchain assets remain in circulation.
Porsche's approach creates a similar separation between the tokens and the organization supporting them.
The 911 NFTs remain technically owned and transferable by their holders, but much of their original utility depended on official events, community access, brand engagement and continued development.
That distinction highlights one of the persistent challenges surrounding branded NFTs. Blockchain ownership can keep an asset alive indefinitely, but it does not guarantee that the company that created it will continue providing experiences or benefits around it.
For Porsche 911 NFT holders, the tokens therefore remain onchain even as the official Web3 ecosystem built around them comes to an end.
