Elon Musk Declares Bitcoin Backing for His New Political Party

Elon Musk has officially tied his freshly minted America Party to Bitcoin, declaring in a post on X.

The comment came just two days after launching the party, which Musk claims will represent “the 80 percent in the middle” of U.S. politics. His pivot comes amid rising tensions with Donald Trump, who Musk once supported but now calls part of the “uniparty.”

The Bitcoin declaration adds a clear pro-crypto stance to the America Party’s platform, signaling that Musk’s new political venture will likely challenge both Democrats and Republicans on financial innovation and economic freedom. For now, he hasn't named a leader or formal structure, but Musk’s massive online influence gives him a ready-made audience for the message.

Fallout With Trump Fuels Political Realignment

The launch of the America Party followed a very public spat with Donald Trump, culminating in Trump calling Musk a “train wreck” on Truth Social over the weekend. The former president also claimed he was sad to watch Musk “embarrass himself publicly.”

Musk’s reaction? A pointed poll on X, asking users whether he should create a new political party. Nearly 65% voted yes, prompting Elon to act.

His main point of contention with Trump was the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping piece of legislation Musk believes betrays centrist values. After the bill passed the House on July 3, Musk said he’d move forward with launching the party and target Republican lawmakers who supported the bill with primary challengers.

Rejected Alliances and a Lone-Wolf Launch

Before launching the America Party, other political figures tried to bring Musk into their orbit. Andrew Yang, leader of the Forward Party, told he had hoped to form a new political movement with Musk or at least win his endorsement. Musk had previously backed Yang’s 2020 presidential run, but didn’t bite this time.

Even the Libertarian Party reached out. Steven Nekhaila, chair of the Libertarian National Committee, said he attempted to collaborate with Musk last week. Still, Musk stayed solo, choosing instead to debut his own platform and position himself as the anti-establishment alternative to both major parties.

Massive Obstacles Ahead for the America Party

Despite Musk’s wealth and visibility, his path won’t be easy. The Washington Post pointed out that Musk has already failed to sway elections, most notably the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court race, and his time running the Department of Government Efficiency hasn’t earned him universal respect.

One of the biggest legal challenges? Ballot access. Getting the America Party on ballots in all 50 states will require navigating complicated state-level election laws, lawsuits, and deep organization—none of which Musk has detailed.

There’s also the issue of presidential eligibility. Musk, who was born in South Africa, cannot run for U.S. president under the Constitution. As of now, he hasn’t named a candidate or leadership team for the party, making the initiative more of a symbolic rebellion than a structured political operation.

Musk, Bitcoin, and a Third Path Forward?

With the backing of Bitcoin, Musk’s America Party now takes a firm pro-crypto stance at a time when both major parties are still undecided on digital assets. While this may appeal to parts of the crypto community and the broader tech-savvy electorate, the lack of clarity on policy, leadership, and objectives leaves more questions than answers.

Still, Musk is pushing forward. As he said on X, “If the system is broken, build a new one.”

Whether Bitcoin and frustration with the status quo are enough to power a third party into national relevance remains to be seen.
