One unique feature of the Trezor Safe 5 is that it ships without firmware installed, meaning users install the official firmware during setup. After the installation is complete, the app performs a security check to confirm that the device is genuine.
During wallet creation, the device generates a 20-word recovery phrase using the SLIP39 standard. This phrase is the master backup for the wallet and must be written down and stored securely offline. Anyone with access to the recovery phrase can restore the wallet and access its funds, which is why it should never be stored digitally or shared with anyone.
The final steps include setting up a PIN code and selecting the cryptocurrencies you want to manage within the wallet. Once completed, the device is ready to receive and store crypto securely.
