A UK cryptocurrency trader has reported being robbed of nearly $800,000 during a violent home invasion, adding to growing concerns about physical attacks targeting digital asset holders.

The trader, known as @rrealist on X, described the incident in posts published late on October 12, 2026.

According to his account, several intruders entered his home, restrained him with tape and threatened him with knives while demanding access to his cryptocurrency.

The victim claimed the attackers held three knives near his face and threatened to kill him unless he complied.

He described the experience in a public warning: “if you live in the uk and do crypto get the f*ck out”

The trader also reported that the attackers stole his Rolex watch and damaged his phone.

Although the victim said police were treating his property as a crime scene, UK authorities had not publicly confirmed the incident when the initial report was published.

Nearly $760,000 Reportedly Stolen From Crypto Wallets

According to the trader, the attackers accessed multiple cryptocurrency wallets during the robbery.

He estimated that approximately $40,000 was taken from his primary wallets, alongside another $720,000 from a Ledger hardware wallet.

Together, those amounts represent roughly $760,000 in reported cryptocurrency losses, excluding the stolen watch.

The victim initially described the overall robbery as involving approximately $800,000.

Blockchain activity associated with a Solana address he shared appears consistent with the reported cryptocurrency transfers.

The address reportedly received 346.13 SOL and 718,735.8 USDC on October 12.

At a SOL price of approximately $106.88, the combined deposits were valued at around $755,730.

The funds remained at the address for more than two hours before being transferred elsewhere shortly after the trader publicized the incident.

However, blockchain transactions alone cannot establish how the funds were obtained or independently verify the victim's account.

The reported incident follows several other violent cryptocurrency robberies involving victims in the United Kingdom.

In December 2025, attackers reportedly entered a couple's home in Solihull, assaulted the husband and threatened his pregnant wife with a knife.

Investigators said another suspect directed the attackers remotely through a video call.

Crimestoppers subsequently offered a £10,000 reward for information related to the case.

British courts have also prosecuted individuals involved in other cryptocurrency-related kidnappings and robberies.

In August 2026, five men were convicted in connection with the 52-hour captivity of two French cryptocurrency investors in a London apartment.

The victims reportedly transferred approximately $30,000 during the ordeal.

Separately, three teenagers were jailed in February after posing as delivery workers during a robbery involving approximately $4.3 million in cryptocurrency.

These incidents highlight the risks of criminals using physical intimidation to obtain access to digital assets.

Wrench Attacks Become Growing Security Concern

Such incidents are commonly described as wrench attacks, referring to situations where criminals use violence or threats to force cryptocurrency holders to surrender their assets.

Unlike conventional hacking, these attacks target the individual rather than exploiting weaknesses in blockchain technology.

According to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, 46 wrench attacks were publicly reported worldwide during the first half of 2026.

The firm also identified a sharp increase in reported home invasions, from one incident during 2025 to 20 during the first six months of 2026.

Reported financial losses exceeded $30 million in the first half of 2026, compared with approximately $58 million throughout 2025.

However, these figures reflect documented incidents and may not capture attacks that victims never report publicly.

France Remains Major Center for Crypto Attacks

While the United Kingdom has experienced several high-profile cases, France remains a major center of reported cryptocurrency-related physical violence.

Chainalysis identified approximately 30 publicly documented French incidents by the middle of 2026.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez separately reported 77 kidnappings, extortion cases and attempted extortions during the first half of the year.

The difference reflects broader categories and reporting methods rather than necessarily conflicting figures.

For cryptocurrency investors, the incidents demonstrate that hardware wallets and private-key security cannot eliminate threats involving physical coercion.

The latest UK allegations remain subject to official confirmation, but the wider pattern of documented attacks has increased attention on personal security among cryptocurrency holders.
