Zentry Airdrop

Zentry's goal is to become a Web3 gaming powerhouse by building a "metagame layer" that connects different games, IPs, and consumer apps into one ecosystem. With their blockchain infrastructure and SDK, Zentry will allow games and apps to easily join this system, letting players use a single identity and carry their progress and assets across all IPs.

Problem Solved

The core concept behind the project is that of the "metagame layer". The goal here is to have a system where a player's progress and in-game assets are shared across different games and IPs, meaning that earning a resource in one game allows you to use it in another game. This idea is not exactly revolutionary, but Zentry does introduce a fresh take on it by seeking to also incorporate consumer apps and real-life interactions.

In their own examples, they envision a user receiving rewards within Zentry for achieving personal records in the gym or treating friends to coffee. This can unlock a plethora of use-cases for cross-promotions and incentivization programs that are not restricted to the Web3 space but extend to real life as well.

Overall, Zentry's vision is to provide value to a player's actions that are not tied to the specific game that they are playing at any given time. They seek to extend this value to as many outlets they can but it is important to note that this interoperability is still limited to the games and apps that choose to integrate with Zentry. The project does plan on providing an exchange where players could exchange in-game resources for other assets which means that, as most other Web3 games, a player will still be able to carry over the value they accrued to other Non-Zentry games.

Tokenomics

Zentry (formerly GuildFi) originally issued the ERC-20 token GF to capture the value that flows across Web3 games, to provide staking benefits to the community and allow participation in the GuildFi governance. GF was launched with a total supply of 1 billion tokens, of which 25% were held by the team and 24% allocated to Seed investors.

Following the rebrand in April 2024, the GF token was migrated to the new ERC-20 token ZENT in a 1:10 ratio. ZENT has a total supply of 10 billion and will be used as an instrument to pay for items and services within the Zentry gaming ecosystem. Currently, the token can be staked via Zentry's Vault, allowing users to earn "Fragments" and unlock incentives across the Zentry universe. The team does not reveal public information about the allocation and vesting schedule of the ZENT token.

The ZENT token is currently listed on more than 10 exchanges, among which OKX and Bybit. Notably, ZENT is not yet listed on Binance, even though the project has received strategic investment from Binance Labs.

Perspectives

To realize their vision, Zentry seems to focus on community growth and partnerships. Their community building strategy involves targeted marketing, generating hype and engagement through incentivized campaigns. Furthermore, Zentry actively invests in gaming projects to attract developers to integrate into their expanding ecosystem, fostering innovation and collaboration in Web3 gaming. They have also gathered a respectable list of backers that can help with finding new partners and integrations for their ecosystem.

All of this is crucially important for a project like Zentry because its success critically relies on having a large community. In that regard, the Zentry team has demonstrated a good grasp on what they need to do to sustain themselves in the longer term. However, they have not shared many technical details for their blockchain component or the SDK, therefore one cannot know if they seek to innovate on a technical level or they will rely on established frameworks.

Founders and Team

Zentry is led by Jarindr Thitadilaka (CEO) and Gazinpoj Techahuasingh (Co-founder), who show previous experience in the Web3 industry. Jarindr was a team lead at the asset trading platform Bitfinex and a Senior Software Engineer at the Ethereum scaling solution OMG Network, while Gazinpoj operated as a Chief Business Officer at Cryptomind Group.

Zentry was established in 2021 and originally operated as a gaming guild, known as GuildFi, with a focus on creating the largest Web3 gaming community in Thailand. GuildFi rebranded to Zentry in April 2024, due to the unsustainable Play-to-Earn business model of gaming guilds, according to an interview with the CEO.

Zentry has raised approximately $150M in total, which implies that the project has the necessary funding to develop a complex gaming ecosystem. Aside from platform development, the team also utilizes the raised funding to invest in other Web3 gaming projects, which shows that the project seeks to attract more developers and products into the Zentry "metagame layer" ecosystem.

Currently, there is no publicly available information about Zentry's technical development, however, their most recent funding round shows that the project's team was capable of pitching their idea to investors after the rebrand. Additionally, the strategic investments confirm Zentry's focus on ecosystem growth, as collaboration with notable investors, such as DWF Labs, Spartan Capital and Animoca Brands, provides access to their gaming and consumer brand connections.

Community

Zentry's onboarding strategy relies heavily on the already established gaming guild community of GuildFi. According to an interview with the founder, GuildFi managed to attract "the largest community in Thailand", which positions Zentry favorably on the market.

Zentry boasts a community of over 500k members, however, this number could have been inflated to look bigger than it actually is. It is possible that Zentry included the player and user bases of all partnering projects that they invested in. It is also possible that they simply counted the followers across their social media profiles cumulatively to reach that number. The objective stats are that Zentry has approximately 70k X (Twitter) followers and less than 30k Discord members, which suggests that the actual community of Zentry is likely much smaller than the reported number of half a million users.

Additionally, the incentivized nature of the community engagement might lead to inorganic interest and hype, possibly influenced by the pre-season program rewards. The inflation of stats is not an unexpected behavior and is often seen within many projects, but it is important to take notice of the real picture when presented with very impressive feats.

Competitors

It is obvious that Zentry is entering a saturated market with a great number of games and a multitude of gaming platforms, both in Web2 and Web3. One could argue that Zentry competes with all of them but there is also enough reason to believe that competitors do not matter in the gaming niche as they do in other parts of the market. Users can play multiple games if they're all entertaining, profitable, or ideally - both.

Furthermore, Web3 games are generally trying to be open and support interoperability by default, meaning that having great games alongside you can be turned into a boon rather than a threat via partnerships or cross-promotions. For a project like Zentry it is probably better to focus on creating a great place that gamers want to be a part of rather than worrying about the competition. Zentry's track record of partnerships and investments into other games indicates that they might have a similar mindset when it comes to competition.

Strengths:
Zentry has a decently sized treasury and has made several investments in other projects to grow their ecosystem.
Zentry raised significant funding and has a list of prominent backers who seem to trust the project's vision.
The team has managed to grow GuildFi through a bear market, demonstrating their ability to build a community and lead a project.
Risks:
Zentry claims to have four products, but only one is already released to the public. Most of the project's potential is based on promises and investor backing.
There is no technical documentation or clear roadmap to indicate if Zentry is actually bringing anything new to the idea of "ecosystem of games" or will it rely more on business development and marketing.
The project boasts having a lot of users (500k+) and even claiming to have the largest community in Thailand, but their actual stats across social platforms and on-chain do not seem to support that claim.

Conclusion

Zentry envisions a place where gamers and Web3 enthusiasts can play games, communicate, and participate in what they call a "game of games", meaning that the Zentry platform itself wants to feel like a metagame while the average player participates in what they're already used to (playing games, interacting with apps, including even real world activities). The market can certainly accommodate such a project and there seems to be no shortage of player demand, especially in games and platforms that promise a reward for the player's invested time and effort.

The slightly concerning part is that Zentry has not shared enough specifics about their ideas and their releases include only a place to stake your ZENT tokens and a social incentivization platform that rewards users for spreading the word about Zentry. To counterbalance this concern, we can look at the team's proven track record of leading a similar project, and their extensive amount of resources and partnerships.
