The US Federal Reserve has maintained its benchmark interest rate at 3.75%-4.00%, following its latest two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.

The October 28, 2026, decision matched market expectations, with more than 90% of Wall Street analysts reportedly anticipating no adjustment.

The central bank's accompanying statement signaled a potentially more restrictive monetary policy outlook, despite leaving borrowing costs unchanged.

The Fed upgraded its assessment of US economic growth from "solid" to "strong" while emphasizing that inflation "remains elevated."

These changes suggest policymakers remain concerned about inflationary pressures and may consider additional tightening if economic conditions warrant it.

Two Fed Officials Push for Rate Increase

Although the decision to maintain rates received broad support, the FOMC was not unanimous.

Ten of the committee's 12 voting members supported keeping the benchmark rate unchanged.

Fed Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack reportedly favored a 25-basis-point increase instead.

The disagreement highlighted growing differences over how aggressively the central bank should respond to persistent inflation.

Following the announcement, market expectations for a potential December interest rate increase reportedly climbed to approximately 85%.

Higher borrowing costs could place additional pressure on technology companies and other growth-oriented businesses whose valuations depend heavily on expectations of future earnings.

For cryptocurrency markets, tighter monetary conditions can also reduce investor appetite for speculative assets.

Bitcoin Gains Slightly as Short Positions Face Liquidations

Bitcoin reacted modestly positively to the Federal Reserve's decision, rising approximately 0.18% over the previous 24 hours.

At the time of reporting, BTC traded near $80,681, remaining just below the psychologically important $81,000 level.

Meanwhile, cryptocurrency derivatives markets recorded approximately $45.39 million in short liquidations, representing 77.4% of reported liquidations during the period.

Short liquidations occur when leveraged traders betting on falling prices are forced to close their positions, potentially adding temporary buying pressure.

Bitcoin's limited price movement suggests traders remain cautious about the Fed's broader monetary policy direction.

US Stocks Show Mixed Reaction to Fed Decision

US equity markets experienced mixed trading following the announcement, reflecting uncertainty over future interest rate adjustments.

Stocks had previously benefited from a two-day rally of approximately 2%, supported by enthusiasm surrounding Anthropic's potential IPO and strong semiconductor earnings from SK Hynix.

However, the Fed's more restrictive language prompted some investors to reduce exposure to growth stocks.

The Nasdaq Composite declined approximately 0.13%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.33% as buying in more defensive sectors offset weakness elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the 10-year US Treasury yield reached approximately 5.03%, reflecting expectations that borrowing costs could remain elevated.

Higher Treasury yields can make government bonds more attractive relative to riskier investments, including cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin Faces Key Resistance Near $81,000

Following the Fed's decision, Bitcoin's immediate technical outlook remains focused on the $81,000 resistance level.

A sustained move above that threshold could open the way toward $84,500, according to the technical analysis cited in the report.

Conversely, weaker buying momentum could expose BTC to a potential decline toward $77,000.

Some long-term valuation indicators, including Bitcoin's rainbow chart, suggest the possibility of a recovery following extended consolidation. However, these indicators cannot reliably predict future prices.

The Federal Reserve's December policy decision, inflation data and Treasury yields will remain important factors for cryptocurrency investors.

For now, Bitcoin has shown limited movement despite the Fed's hawkish signals, leaving traders watching whether the next major price move confirms a recovery or renewed selling pressure.
